Dear Parents,

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.  I write my final newsletter for the school year with immense gratitude to you all for making this year a wonderful one for our scholars and all of us in class 2A. It means a lot to me that our year ran smoothly without any problems. I thank you all for supporting your child in every way possible. Your dedication made a huge difference to your child’s love for learning. We will continue with our usual schedule, and here is a bird’s eye view of our final week.

LANGUAGE ARTS

SPALDING –We will continue our spelling words this week. Encourage your scholars to continue to practice writing their cursive. We will continue practicing in class as well. Students are not mandated to write in cursive now.

List 1: waist, waste, waiting, weary, writing, writer, write, spend, enjoy

List 2: awful, awe, usual, complaint, auto, vacation, beautiful, beauty, flight, travel

List 3: rapid, repair, troubling, trouble, entrance, importance, important, carried, carry, loss

READING – READING STRATEGY: We will continue to review all comprehension strategies learned throughout the school year.

POETRY: Title: “Harriet Tubman” by Eloise Greenfield. Students will do their recitals during the last week of school. Students will do their recitals on Thursday.

SAYING: None

GRAMMAR/VOCABULARY – We will do a review of all parts of speech.

WRITING – We have finished our unit in writing, but students will write their final paragraph this week.

LEVELED READERS – Students must return all their chapter books by Wednesday.

MATH

We complete our final unit in Math: Geometry. Students will identify and make basic 3-D shapes. They will also identify flat and curved surfaces on a 3-D object. We will identify vertices and edges on 3-D shapes.

SCIENCE

The class will review all we learned about simple machines. We will send a review guide home on Tuesday. The Science quiz will be on Thursday. We will read 4 science biographies this week as well: Florence Nightingale, Daniel Hale Williams, Anton Van Leuwenhoek,  and Elijah McCoy.

HISTORY

  In History, We will continue learning about Civil Rights leaders.

VIRTUE OF THE MONTH – Wisdom

Understanding of what is true and right that leads to just judgment as to action.

Know, then ACT

Wisdom is being wise, making trustworthy decisions, and making wise choices. Abraham Lincoln showed wisdom when he made the Emancipation Proclamation to free all slaves.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

·       Students will empty their desk on Thursday. It is important that they bring to school a plastic bag or grocery bag to empty their desk.

·       Friday will be a busy day and we will be celebrating the last day of school! In the midst of all the activities, students will be allowed to bring whatever treats they would like to share. We will be celebrating all summer birthday as well, so all the students that wish to celebrate their birthdays will be encouraged to do so. Parents are allowed to bring as many treats as possible. The kids will  eat some in class, and the rest will be distributed evenly amongst the whole class 

·       Please, all chapter books should be returned to school.

·       Your child went home with a brochure that outlines all of the exciting camps being held, here at Archway Arete, during the Great Hearts Summer Academy. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Posner atjposner@archwayarete.org.
