Dear Parents,
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.  I write my final newsletter for the school year with immense gratitude to you all for making this year a wonderful one for our scholars and all of us in class 2A. It means a lot to me that our year ran smoothly without any problems. I thank you all for supporting your child in every way possible. Your dedication made a huge difference to your child’s love for learning. We will continue with our usual schedule, and here is a bird’s eye view of our final week.
LANGUAGE ARTS
SPALDING –We will continue our spelling words this week. Encourage your scholars to continue to practice writing their cursive. We will continue practicing in class as well. Students are not mandated to write in cursive now.
List 1: waist, waste, waiting, weary, writing, writer, write, spend, enjoy

List 2: awful, awe, usual, complaint, auto, vacation, beautiful, beauty, flight, travel

List 3: rapid, repair, troubling, trouble, entrance, importance, important, carried, carry, loss

READINGREADING STRATEGY: We will continue to review all comprehension strategies learned throughout the school year.
POETRY: Title: “Harriet Tubman” by Eloise Greenfield. Students will do their recitals during the last week of school. Students will do their recitals on Thursday.
SAYING: None
GRAMMAR/VOCABULARY – We will do a review of all parts of speech.
WRITING – We have finished our unit in writing, but students will write their final paragraph this week.
LEVELED READERS – Students must return all their chapter books by Wednesday.
MATH
We complete our final unit in Math: Geometry. Students will identify and make basic 3-D shapes. They will also identify flat and curved surfaces on a 3-D object. We will identify vertices and edges on 3-D shapes.
SCIENCE
The class will review all we learned about simple machines. We will send a review guide home on Tuesday. The Science quiz will be on Thursday. We will read 4 science biographies this week as well: Florence Nightingale, Daniel Hale Williams, Anton Van Leuwenhoek,  and Elijah McCoy.
HISTORY
  In History, We will continue learning about Civil Rights leaders.
VIRTUE OF THE MONTH – Wisdom

Understanding of what is true and right that leads to just judgment as to action.

Know, then ACT

Wisdom is being wise, making trustworthy decisions, and making wise choices. Abraham Lincoln showed wisdom when he made the Emancipation Proclamation to free all slaves.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
·       Students will empty their desk on Thursday. It is important that they bring to school a plastic bag or grocery bag to empty their desk.
·       Friday will be a busy day and we will be celebrating the last day of school! In the midst of all the activities, students will be allowed to bring whatever treats they would like to share. We will be celebrating all summer birthday as well, so all the students that wish to celebrate their birthdays will be encouraged to do so. Parents are allowed to bring as many treats as possible. The kids will  eat some in class, and the rest will be distributed evenly amongst the whole class 
·       Please, all chapter books should be returned to school.

Dear Parents,
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.  On behalf of Ms. Peterson and I, I want to say a very big thank you to you all for making last week a memorable one. The food, the gifts, the flowers, and thank you notes are so very much appreciated. We cannot do what we do without your cooperation, so we thank you too. It was also nice seeing everyone at the concert. The kids did great! We are so proud of them.
Here is a quick look at our 36th week:
LANGUAGE ARTS

Students learned that a paragraph is made up of at least 3-5 sentences. It must have an introductory sentence, three support sentences, and a closing sentence.
LEVELED READERS – The class will continue to read chapter books.
MATH
We will continue working on gathering data and plotting graphs. They are all finding this concept easy, but I will love to see them continue to practice telling time.
SCIENCE
The class will review all we learned about simple machines. We will send a review guide home this week. They will do a quiz on Thursday.
HISTORY
  In History, We will talk about the process of becoming a citizen. We will do a review for the Immigration and citizenship unit. The test for this unit will be on Wednesday. We will begin our last unit for history: Civil Rights leaders.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. It’s so hard to believe that we are in the final month of the school year. It flew by so fast. I look forward to seeing you all at the concert on Thursday.  I wish everyone a great week.

HISTORY
  In History, We will talk about the role immigrants like – Andrew Carnegie, Albert Sabin, and Irvin Berlin played in the making of USA.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. There is still so much to learn, so please encourage your scholars to continue to give their best.
Here is a quick look at our 34th week:
LANGUAGE ARTS
SPALDING –We will continue our spelling words this week.

GRAMMAR/VOCABULARY – We will review contractions.

WRITING – As we continue working on Writing With Ease, students will continue to develop narration, dictation and copy work skills. We will continue to write paragraphs. Students learned that a paragraph is made up of at least 3-5 sentences. It must have an introductory sentence, three support sentences, and a closing sentence.

LEVELED READERS – Your scholar will bring home a chapter book to read. Please, encourage them to continue to write their reflection logs. Please, have them take care of the book as well.
MATH
This week, we will learn how to measure liquid content in capacity. We will compare the capacity of containers, understand liter as a unit of measurement, and solve word problems relating to measuring in capacity.
SCIENCE
We will continue learning about Simple Machines. Last week, we learned about work, force, energy and levers. This week, we will focus on wedges and inclined planes as examples of simple machine.
HISTORY
  In History, We will begin a new unit on Immigration and Citizenship. Students will learn about why and how Europeans migrated to USA. We will talk about the role immigrants played in the making of USA.

VIRTUE OF THE MONTH – Responsibility/Humility

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. The count down continues into the fifth week of our final quarter.  There is still so much to learn, so please encourage your scholars to continue to give their best. It has been a little rowdy in the past week.
Here is a quick look at our 33rd week for the school year:
LANGUAGE ARTS
SPALDING –We will continue our spelling words this week. Encourage your scholars to continue to practice writing their cursive. We will continue practicing in class as well. Students are not mandated to write in cursive now.

This week, we will continue learning how to tell time. Last week was quite challenging for the entire class, but I think we are making good progress with telling time after and before the hour. We will focus on the start or end time for a time interval. Please, help reinforce telling time at home.
SCIENCE
We have finished our unit on Magnets. Students will come home with their packets and study guides. Science test will be on Thursday. We will begin a new unit on Simple Machines. We will explore what a simple machine is and list several examples of what they are used for.
HISTORY
  In History, We will finish our unit on Civil war by reviewing all they learned about the war, slavery, people that made a difference, how the war started, and how it ended. There will be a test on Friday.

VIRTUE OF THE MONTH – Responsibility/Humility

To hold yourself morally accountable for actions within your control.
